Balmoral Hotel
The Balmoral can be a great place to stay, with clean rooms and good service. It can also be a unpleasent experience.
I spent two seperate nights in different rooms. My first room had two small twin beds, no king. Requested another room, new room had two king beds. The king beds took up so much space I could not access the closet. The room had a small bath and no room safe. Use of a safe deposit box down in the lobby was an option. My room was on the 6th floor, which also happened to have reception/banquet facilities on the same floor. Lot of noise from quests and staff using the rooms for various functions. Elevators would randomly stop at floors for no reason.
My second stay at the Balmoral got me a nice room on the 5th floor. The room was clean, well layed out, spacous with windows looking out on an open air inter core and a room safe. Problem is the 6th floor reception rooms are also next to this core. Noise from the meeting rooms was annoying, particularly when trying to sleep between 10:00pm -12:00am when there was a constant drum beat from a wedding, and on into the night from staff cleaning up after the wedding.
The Balmoral restaurant and bar were remodeled and expanded recently. Poor design has the bar on the second floor, to gain access must walk to back of first floor restaurant, up stairs, then to the front of second floor restaurant to get to the bar.
If you happen to get a nice room with no meetings/receptions going on, then you will have a nice stay....More

Best Western Irazu
Hotel clean & nice but our room was facing outside & lots of traffic and sirens all night, even above air con. After being all over the quiet couuntry, the noise was magnified. Another time, I would request an inside room. The staff was very pleasant, but check-in took a long timem, only three clerks and long lines to check-in....More

Hotel Luisiana
This hotel is not easy to find without GPS, but is a very nice property when you arrive. The staff was very nice and the location is near a typical San Jose "comercial" area with interesting local resturants. Would stay there again......More
