Trip Type: Romance Review 1 of 139Great Room for the Money
I was pleasently surprised by this quaint little hotel tucked in downtown DC in the heart of the city. It was used for a romantic get-away and it was just perfect.! I loved it. I will use it again.

Trip Type: Special Event Review 2 of 139Loved It
The Topaz Hotel is a nice place to stay, and in a wonderful neighborhood. There are numerous restaurants, coffee shops, etc. right around the corner and the Dupont Metro station is there also. It's a beautiful area and great for walking. I would stay here again.

It was nice..only flaw we had was we got a room that was for the handicaped and had no tub..just a shower, wife wasnt happy with that and they could'nt change our room at the time...and it took a long time for hot water..but its not to far from most of the attractions..

Trip Type: Family Review 4 of 139comfortable hotel
On the whole, the hotel was comfortable. Extras that could/should have been included: extra chair (only 1 comfortable chair in room for 2 people), free refrigerator, continental breakfast.

Trip Type: Family Review 5 of 139Excellent room for the money and wonderful service
Incredibly helpful staff and the place is in a great neighborhood. We had a great time and although the rooms don't blow you away or anything, it totally fit the bill for us.

Trip Type: Business Review 6 of 139Terrific small hotel!
I love the Topaz for several reasons-- it has a great location convenient to Dupont Circle, Conn Ave as well as other locations. While there is no official restaurant, the hotel serves food and has a great menu. And the staff just aim to please, in so many different ways.

Trip Type: Business Review 7 of 139Disappointing
Asked for a room with bike. A/C not working and had to be moved to another room with treadmill. A/C in that room quit during the night and they had to get engineering to evaluate it. Finally worked. Elevators were slow. But, the rooms were very spacious and the location was great.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 8 of 139Big Room, No breakfast!
I recently stayed at the Topaz hotel for a weekend in DC with friends. The hotel was satisfactory. The room was large but the bathroom was quite small and there was no coffee pot. We thought we got at least a continental breakfast with our room but found out we did not get breakfast because we booked online with hotels.com. Would it really be too much to ask for a muffin regardless of how the room was booked? I was excited that the hotel offered valet parking but was disappointed when I looked out my window and saw my car wedged into a tiny little lot with about 8 spaces in the rear of the hotel. Also, I wanted a hotel with a restaurant and bar on site and while Topaz offered this, I saw no restaurant and the small bar seemed to be closed all the time. Overall I was satisfied with the Topaz, I slept well and it served it's purpose but I might try another hotel next time just to see what else is out there.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 9 of 139Nice Place, Good Location
I stayed here in August of 2009. The location is very convenient to the White House and all of the other monuments, probably about 20-30 minute walk. The staff was always very kind and helpful. I did not use the valet parking provided by the hotel because it was $35. The parking meters in front of the hotel were free after 6:30pm and on the weekends. Also, there are a couple of other parking garages within a block or two that are much cheaper. There are plenty of places to eat and shop within a couple of blocks so it was a good location.

Trip Type: Business Review 10 of 139Not a business hotel but a decent stay for infrequent travelers
The Topaz is not like most Kimpton hotels, of which I have been to several dozen. Though the room condition and cleanliness was satisfactory, the overall condition of the hotel was pretty drab. Furthermore, the sheets and towels were smelled strongly of bleach, which did not cover up the musty smell of the hallways and room. Overall, it is in a good location right outside Dupont. That said, there are many much more comfortable B&Bs in the area for around $100 a night.

Trip Type: Romance Review 11 of 139Missed a few of the perks I look for in a Kimpton
Loved the decor, as usual. Location is a block off Dupont Circle, which is also great. Afternoon reception is a bit different from other Kimptons in that there is a small table with 2 very nice types of Sangria, and a very small amount of delicious snacks are served a few at a time. In other words, a bit awkward because there would be more folks there than there was food, and most of us were quite interested in the yummy stuff. Just a couple of other let downs, not to sound like Debbie Downer, but ... No morning paper even for Kimpton In Touch members; only one robe in our room which disappeared on day 2 of our 3 day stay; and a night staff (when we arrived) who were a little iffy -- one super nice guy who didn't appear to know as much about the area, hotel, etc., as the guy he had to ask, who was anything but friendly. Again, one of the reasons we love staying at Kimptons is because the staff is usually very helpful. Oh, other up sides though -- free parking if you're driving a hybrid, which we were, and free Internet. I'd still recommend you give this hotel a shot despite a couple of short falls. Also, it's right by the Tabard Inn -- and they have a great restaurant and bar there.

Trip Type: Business Review 12 of 139Loved it!
I had a conference at the Washington Convention Center, but they only recommended the "stuffy" hotels near the Convention Center which were expensive and not in a very fun area. Topaz was a perfect location for us - around the corner from the Dupont Metro stop so i could take the Metro to the convention center or take a nice walk (about 25 minutes). We had a very large room with a seperate sitting area that was great to relax in, a nice quiet stay with attentive staff and everything we needed, all for much less than the hotels the conference recommended. The decor was very fun and gave a great funky feel appropriate to the Dupont Circle area. The building is right amongst the cute row houses in a quiet street off Dupont Circle.

Trip Type: Romance Review 15 of 139Outstanding boutique hotel
It was definitely worth the stay. Close to some interesting restaurants and sights, as well as located on a quiet street in a busy city - an unusual combination. Very friendly staff, making for a great atmosphere. Lots of hotels in D.C. have attitude, but this one had a great attitude - the right attitude! We've already recommended the hotel to firends, and plan on visitingthere again
