Fantastic Hotel in Downtonw Chicago

Excellent location. Very pleasant front desk staff and bellhop services. Great value. My only complaint with this hotel was the valet parking. I found the nightly rate to be high even for downtown Chicago standards. I'm not sure if they were short-staffed, but the valet wasn't anywhere in sight when we first came up to the hotel, so we were unsure if we were to leave the car in the street or wait for the valet to arrive. I'm in Chicago at least once a month on a combination of business and pleasure and will definitely come back to The Silversmith.

A Landmark Experience

We were pleasantly surprised at this little gem on Jewelers Row steps from the Madison/Wabash El stop. The staff was friendly and accomodating, the room was clean and comfortable, and the location couldn't have been better. We are locals just enjoying the city over the holiday, but this hotel would be ideal for someone coming from out of town and needing to take the train up from Midway (Orange Line, see above comment about proximity to the el station) or down from O'Hare (Blue Line, the hotel is about four blocks from the Washington Blue Line station). State Street, Millenium Park, Grant Park, Theaters, Michigan Avenue, The Art Institute are all just blocks away from the door of The Silversmith. Recently renovated (12 years ago) and true to its landmark status but with all the modern amenities, you won't go wrong with this choice.

Nice spacious room and bath

Walking distance to Millenium Park, the Art Institute, theatres and restaurants..We couldn't ask for more! The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. we will definitely return on our next visit to Chicago!

Great hotel for the money

Room was very roomy and clean. Huge bathroom. Beds were comfortable and definitely enough pillows! Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Location was convenient, public transportation (taxi and eleveated train)available within steps of front enterance! Would definitely stay again.

Awesome hotel, awesome location!

My husband and i took our 2 tenn-agers to this hotel the week after Christmas (part of their Christmas present). I cannot stress enough how awesome the whole experience was. We were so close to State Street Mall shopping district as well as Michigan Ave.shopping that we easily went back to the hotel on a few occasions just to drop off our shopping bags instead of having to carry them. The staff and overall condition of the hotel couldn't be better and well exceeded our expectations.

A very nice place to stay.

This was our first time staying at the Silversmith and I must say i had concerns about staying at a hotel that is as old as it is, however, once inside the hotel those concerns vanished. We stayed in a One Bedroom Suite over the Christmas holiday, our room was spacious, very clean, and like the hotel very modern and up-to-date. This hotel is located in the loop on Wabash and construction is going on in the area which makes it difficult (but not impossible) to get to by car. Public transportation is readily available, the loop theaters are all within walking distance. Over all this is a great hotel to stay at, however it should be noted that the ell runs right outside this hotel and can be heard in the rooms, we stayed on the eighth floor and it does sound like a fan or the wind when one goes by.

Good Hotel

The hotel is situated in a perfect location in the Loop. Depending on how much of a railfan the guest is, there might be some problems with the "L" running right in front of the hotel but I thought it was nice background noise. The concierge was too busy at the front desk most of the time and there was no internet during my stay. Other than that, it was a good experience.

Nice Hotel

Located conveniently downtown in the loop. A value for the money for downtown Chicago. Have gotten much less for similar price.

Great location for theater, shopping & Art Institute

Friendly staff, welcoming space. Very comfortable beds, thirsty towels. Only minuses for us: in-room coffee could be better, and the room was a bit on the dry side. The coffee can be fixed, but dry air is to be expected in an historic property. Though the restaurant people were very pleasant, we were disapointed in the food. Can't beat the location
