Trip Type: With Friends Review 1 of 266Quaint as long as you don't mind noise!
The Normandy has a quaint European feel and charm which was impressive to me from the start. The rooms are small but decorated nicely and equipt with flat screens and personal coffee makers, nice touches. I loved it until I tried to go to sleep. The building next door, over which the Normandy has no control, apparently likes to party. The courtyard of the Normandy only echos this noise up to your room, making it impossible to get any sleep. So, as long as you don't mind staying up all night, this hotel is great.

Trip Type: Business Review 3 of 266Okay, but somewhat disappointing
The place looked lovely, and I really wanted to like it more than I found myself able to. The heat was broken the first day I arrived (unfortunate, in rainy, near freezing temperatures), and although the rooms look that isolated oases the walls certainly didn't keep out the sounds of people having apparently a normal-volume conversation down the hall, nor vigorous lovemaking somewhere in the vicinity. I was also disappointed to come back at 5:00 pm to a still unclean room. Considering I made my plans at the last minute, I can't complain too much, but even so it was not quite what I had hoped.

Trip Type: Business Review 5 of 266Great small hotel!
Really enjoyed my stay. Had a very nice room with a view towards CT Avenue. Bed was very comfy, nice amenities such as the hi-def flat screen TV! Loved the modern bathroom with glass shower stall. Expresso machine was very handy in the morning. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Nice lounge area. Excellent neighborhood & location, just off busy CT Avenue. Parking was no problem: unloaded my baggage & brought it to my room, then drove the car to the Marriott just over a block away to park. The price for parking was average for the area ($28), and I was able to go in & out of the parking lot with no problem. I will definitely go back to the Normandy!

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 6 of 266Stay for the neighborhood, not the space
The rooms are small but if you're really only sleeping and showering while on vacation or work travel it's a comfy stay.

Trip Type: Business Review 8 of 266Just right .... but the bed ....
Nice updated room. Small - but about right for the location and building. Solid location that is very walkable to Dupont Square Metro, but if you don't want to have a morning stroll, watch for the L4's bus schedule and you'll be fine. The only thing that held back the room for me was the bed. A better mattress is needed.

Very, very comfy bed and pillows! in-room espresso maker and refrigerator a plus. Small room with modern decor, immaculate bathroom, large TV and little bedside reading lamps. Very cozy.

Overall, we were very pleased with our stay. The room was very small but nicely done. Though it was a hike to Dupont Circle, we loved this great neighborhood. We just parked our car because the Metro and some incredible restaurants were just a few minutes walk away. We would stay there again.

Trip Type: Romance Review 13 of 266What others have said is correct...
I normally don't review hotels that I book here on Hotels.com. I will make an exception for the Normandy. First, just to clear things up, I took public transit, so I cannot comment on parking. 1) Yes, it was a little bit of a walk from the Metro stop at Dupont. If you are planning to go out and back from Metro to room several times per day, this may not be the place for you. The walk is roughly 8-10 minutes, but through a very pleasant (and rather vibrant) area. 2) The room is small, as people have noted, for American standards. I hate saying this, but it is very much "Euro" in size. I loved it, not b/c it's Euro, but b/c it was cozy! Great four-post bed, amazing bathroom (marble, glass shower!), and yes, the famed espresso machine. I'm not normally a coffee drinker, but this did the trick. So, in my opinion, if you are younger than 40 and traveling with two people and want a safe but fun neighborhood, this is the place for you! If you don't like walking a little and/or need a palace-size room, don't stay here.
