Trip Type: Not Provided Review 1 of 174Not as we expected
Long, long waits to get up or down the elevators were a constant irritation. In addition the hotel ran out of hot water for showers in the morning. No view at all, but very clean room. This was not quite a 4 star hotel.

Trip Type: Business Review 2 of 174Fantastic Staff!
I loved our stay at The James, and it was an amazing value due to the great rate I got on Hotels.com. Everyone was extremely nice, from the friendly doormen helping me in/out of cabs with all my luggage and bags, to the guest services woman who helped me search for a laptop charger when I forgot mine. We had to wait a while to get our luggage after checking it with the hotel (and the concierge did all he could to speed up the process), but other than that, the customer service was superb. The modern room setup was great, with a nice sitting/working space away from the bed. And there are plenty of open outlets in the room, a challenge I've found in other hotels. The turndown service and hot cider in the lobby were also lovely perks after a long Chicago winter day.

The picture online of hotel rooms was misleading and distorted to exactly what the room looked liked. No pop machines in hallway. Items in room were expensive, but that is Chicago. Hotel staff were not informative to their surroundings when asked of destination of places in their area.(Counter and valet) When we walked on our own tho, it was convenient to restaurant and movie theatre and shopping.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 6 of 174Great Stay!!!!!!
Upon check in the experience was great. I arrived and they had upgraded me free of charge to a room with couch sitting area, a projection room and the most comfortable bed. The room had a flare of being in Europe. There were 2 flat screens and a projector to view DVD's. They even supplied free of charge DVD's to rent. The bar area was nice and cozy which served great drinks. At night it turned into a trendy hang out. The restraunt had a great menu especially if you like beef. The meal was served hot and they even adapted to my changes. The Spa was nice after a day of shopping. They don't have a steam room nor whirlpool but who cares after all the gym was open 24 hrs and FREE. Everyday we were greeted with smiles and hot cider and cookies. There was also a computer area with terminals and printers again free. The location is in the heart of downtown with stores, plenty of eating resources and movie theaters to enjoy. I hated that my stay had to end but I will always use this as my place to stay when coming to Chicago.......

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 7 of 174Outstanding Hotel
The rooms were clean and sleek and the service was very accomadating and friendly. The linens were clean and fresh and the bedding was very comfortable. They were very prompt with filling all requests. I will definitely stay here again. I loved the smaller feel of the hotel.

Trip Type: Business Review 14 of 174A Wonderful Stay
My experience at The James was very satisfactory. My room was very comfortable and the service was exemplary. The cost was quite economical, especially considering the excellent location. The lounge/lobby is a great place to relax, have a drink and "people watch." I would stay there again without hesitation.
