Good Hotel

Very much enjoyed the room and rate. The rooms are incredible. Wish that it were stated that there was a major New Year's Eve event going to occur and that guests were automatically invited.

Needs Maintenance

I was very dissappointed by the quality of this hotel. From the website, I had the impression that this was going to be an upscale boutique hotel with an indoor pool. The cooridors of the hotel are exterior and so is the pool (from the photos). The first negative impression is the elevator which is badly scratched because the doors don't shut properly. Then, when we entered the room there were scratches, holes, dings and dents in the walls and paint. The drains in the tub and sink weren't affixed and there was an orange goo on the bathroom ceiling. The tiles on the bathroom floor were chipped and the vent and smoke detector in the ceiling were not properly installed so there were gaps in the drywall. The bed and bedding was comfortable, but the down comforters didn't have duvets, just flat sheets on both sides of the comforter. I took pictures of all the damage in the room as well and will be sending those photos to the hotel management. The hotel has potential, but is in desperate need of repair (at least room 204 is).

Very nice and hip boutique hotel.

This hotel is decorated in a contempory style, but is still warm and comfortable. The rooms are very clean and nicely decorated. The bed is very comfortable. The Aveda products are a very nice touch. I would definitely recommend anyone visiting Phoenix to stay at the Clarendon. It also is a part of Phoenix history, which you can read about in the hotel lobby. My only complaint was that the wireless internet was not working in the room, and the lobby internet was off and on.

No housekeeping service/no explanation????

During my recent 3 days stay, I did not receive housekeeping service one day and no explanation was given, all I was told was that housekeeping had gone home for the day. I had to complain and ask for compensation, when clearly management should had offered it, without having me fight for it, since it was their fault my room was not serviced! It seems to me that the hotel is having employee/management issues!

Good hotel with free local and long distance phone calls

This is a good hotel. This is the first hotel that I stay in that offers free local and long distance phone calls. It'll be better if the hotel can provide disposable slippers, tiny tooth paste or shaving kits, which is very common in most of the hotels that I stay in China.

Great place!

One of my favorite, small, intimate, new age hotels in Phoenix.

great room

great location, breakfast at the hotel was overpriced and not all that tasty. Our room (executive suite) was spacious with many fine amenities. the flatscreen on the wall was bigger than the one in our house! The only drawback was the bathtub and bathtub fixtures. The rest of the room set our expectations too high to have a quite substandard tub.. The rest of the bathroom was very clean and modern.

"Needs Improvement"

The hotel was okay, it was convenient to visit the hospital - St Joseph, however the room was muggy, they don't hae air conditioning and it get's really hot, but the room was nice, the pool is nice, but it's an old renovated motel. It still needs work, and the internet connection was horrible. The room and pool decor was very modern and nice though.

Borderline 3 star hotel

This hotel has the makings of 4 star hotel: 42" plasma, contemporary furniture, plush bed, seductive lounge/bar/pool. However, the hotel did not pay attention to details, like the bathroom is very contemporary but the tub/shower was small with cheap plastic fixtures, the room walls are painted concrete block which makes the room feel cheap and cold. The plasma tv was installed crooked, there is no heat on thermostat, turn it to 98degrees and you will still be freezing. Oh, dont bother eating breakfast there unless you are on a diet and like to spend alot for very little. The ribeye dinner was very tasty I must admit!

A Marriage Between Boutique and Target

I was very pleasantly surprised - even thrilled - with the Clarendon Hotel somewhere near downtown Phoenix (I never gained a clear sense of the city layout). The hotel was built decades ago and is a cinder block hotel, but it is very stylishly designed. The materials used are fairly inexpensive, but they are striking: bright colors and the like. The hotel was something of a cross between one of the expensive "Ian Shrader" boutique hotels in New York or LA and a discount motel. Thus, the carpet has a modernist design, but it is not expensive carpeting. The bed is very comfortable. And the price - through the discount at Hotels.com - was comparable to a roadside motel. Nicely designed swimming pool. I was very pleased.
