Trip Type: Business Review 1 of 249Great Location, OK Hotel
Good: -Location -Somewhat friendly and helpful staff -Kitchenette Bad: -Harrowing shower experience! -Parking situation The hotel's location is absolutely prime. If you can live with a shower that goes from freezing to scolding hot and back to freezing within seconds...for the entire duration of your shower...this is a great place to stay. The room was huge and very clean. The kitchenette was great - I saved a lot of money by making my own food. Contrary to other reviews, I was not charged to use the "business center" (two computers with internet access in a room with a printer / fax machine). The doorman was great, but front desk service was just OK. For parking - do it at the GW parking garage just down the street! Do not use the hotel's parking garage - way overpriced.

Trip Type: Family Review 6 of 249Great Room for the Money
Hotel was very clean, room was quiet and roomy; the maid service was excellent and friendly. It is within walking distance of all of the DC attractions and the neighborhood felt safe. We checked in at the front desk for different questions at various times and the personnel were rather snotty. They didn't seem to want to be bothered by you for questions in regards to directions to places; etc...

Trip Type: Business Review 10 of 249Nice Place
Can't complain about this place. We got in cheap for the town. The room had a kitchen that was extreemly handy on a week long stay. About an 8 minute walk from metro. Overall it was a good experiance.

This is a subjective opinion. It depends on what you're looking for. I heard it was a great location, so I was expecting to be in downtown D.C.-close to Dupont Circle, or metro center, within walking distance to shops and restaurants. The hotel is on the GW campus and there are no shops or restaurants in walking distance. You have to take the metro to go into the city, which is not a short walk. In addition, you're walking through campus to get to the metro stop, and feel like your walking through fraternity row. College kids loading up on alcohol and kegs in the liquor store adjacent to the hotel on the weekend nights. You are in walking distance to the Washington Monument though, and it's a nice-long-walk down there. That's a plus. I was not happy with the condition of the hotel. It was clean, but very outdated; old t.v. in room, outdated bathroom with poor-working tub/shower temperature knobs. The water was either really hot or extremely cold, couldn't get an even temp., which I think was also a result of the room next door to me using the shower, at the same time, too. My room was right above/next to the roof of the restaurant too, so it was loud and an awful view with the rooftop heating/cooling systems. There is a small eat-in kitchen but I didn't use it at all, a mini-fridge would've been all I needed. The last thing I want to do on vacation is cook. CVS next door to liquor store was convenient for snacks and drinks though. So, if you like the convenience of newer chain hotels, which I believe update rooms and renovate frequently, and being close to downtown restaurants, shops, and galleries, do not chose this hotel.

Trip Type: Family Review 12 of 249Good value, but....
Our room overlooked an alley, so there was no view. The biggest problem is that the hotel is either all-heat or all-AC and they had just switched to heat. It was a warm weekend and we had to open windows to cool off. At 3am each morning, the garbage trucks arrived in the alley and were quite loud. Maybe this would not have been so bad if the windows were closed. The kitchen in the room was quite dated but very convenient and clean. The staff was very friendly. For the money, it was a good value and an easy walk to many DC sights.

I know that the hotel is a good deal for being in Washington and had a great location. It was only four blocks from a metro station (Foggy Bottom) and a few blocks from Vietnam and Lincoln Memorial. The HUGE problem was the air contitioning/heaters is one system that the hotel controls so each room doesn't have its own system and only either the heater or air conditioner can be on at one time. It was 59 outside and the hotel had turned off the air conditioner and turned on the heater. Our room was hot and we couldn't get it cool to sleep even though we had the windows open as far as they would go. When told I told the staff about it the said they had turned off the air because it was cold last week but couldn't or wouldn't turn it back on. To make matters worse all four of us showered the net morning. Well the tub drained very slowly so we had to wait 10 minutes after every shower so the tub would drain. I took my shower and when I was done the water in the tub was above my ankle bones. And with no vent in the bath room and it raining outside the room was now HOT and HUMID. I told the desk clerk about the tub and she said they would fix it. Well the next morning the tub was the same so I got the same apology the next morning when we left.

I especially liked the large bathtub. It was nice to soak in a hot tub after a full day of walking around to see the sights.
