Good Hotel, Fair Location for Tourism

The hotel was relatively nice, and conveniently located near Lancaster tube stop (red/central line). It is also a 5 minute walk to Paddington Station, where you can find the direct 15 minute train to Heathrow (quite convenient). Also, price was pretty good for the room. Only drawbacks were 17 Pound daily fee for internet service, inconvenient walkable location to central sites (needed to ride the tube for that, which closes at Midnight). Also, reception was always crowded and people working reception didn't speak english very well.

Great Hotel, Terrible Restaurant

We had a great stay for 2 days at the Royal Lancaster. We couldn't have asked for a better location next to the Lancaster Gate Tube station which provided access to all of London and the service provided by the hotel employees was great. Although the room was a little small, it was nice inside and just what we needed for our short stay. I felt like the price we paid for the room was a very good value. The only complaint we had was the restaurant in the hotel. On our last day we couldn't find a decent restaurant close by to have a cooked breakfast and resorted back to the hotel, thinking it couldn't be too expensive. Not only was it by far the most expensive breakfast of our 2 weeks in the country, it was also by far the worst service. Both orders came out wrong and the wait staff wasn't that helpful. For the price charged, I expected much better. Long story short - great hotel, lousy restaurant.

Royal Lancaster

The Royal Lancaster was a good hotel for sightseeing in London. Right on Hyde park and the subway - we could walk to Buckingham palace and the shopping on Oxford and Regent streets. The only negative was the plumbing - it needs a some updating to keep it from "groaning" with unbalanced water pressure.

Bad customer service

Our television did not work for the first day and a half. They had to send an "engineer" in to fix it and offered to discount for our inconvenience. Then I called twice for an iron to be delivered to my room because they do not provide them in the room and two hours later I still didn't receive one so I wore my clothes wrinkled. When bringing these items to the front desks attention when we checked out they really didn't seem to care. We had a couple of local calls that we asked to be waved, at the least, and they wouldn't even do that. Very poor customer service. There are many options in this city and this is not one I would recommend.

Great room & location for the $$$

Great price for a nice Hotel in downtown London. Service staff were terrific, especially the room attendants and front desk staff. Convenient to the underground Central Line. Only "got ya" was the 7.19 (pound) charge for one local phone call; there would have been more "got ya" incidents, but I had been warned by other reviewers to be careful of the price of extras at the hotel, so for the most part we stayed away from them. I will definately stay at this hotel again.

Recomended!

I stayed at this hotel at the end of a business trip so that I could see some of the sights in London. I picked it for the location (it's walking distance to Paddington station where you can pick up the heathrow express to the airport). The room was very nice and clean, the staff was helpful and freindly. You can catch the double decker tour bus right behind the building or the underground right in front of the building. If I had to complain about one thing it would be the food prices. Breakfast for 20 pounds is to rich for my blood. Walk 10 minutes to the west and there are plenty of other choices for cheaper food.

Agree with other reviews

Great location is the key. My wife and I are runner and enjoyed waking up each morning and heading 50 yds across the road to a great run through the Parks. Also the tube is literally seconds away. The combination of those two with a fair price meant we were very satisfied.

Great place

Took the Heatrow express to Paddington . 5 minute walk from Paddington station. Arrived at 10 am and payed 20 lbs extra per night to check in before 2 pm. 34 lbs for internet in the room; too much. Underground station was around the block and Hyde park is across the street which makes the hotel very convenient. Also a short walk to lots of pubs and restaurants. Highly recomend !

Nice, but overpriced

My friend and I decided to splurge for accomodations in London, selected this 4 star hotel and then "upgraded" for better amenities and a view. We got a 13th floor view over Hyde Park and London. It was very nice. The room, however, left something to be desired. We specifically requested 2 beds. The ad photo for the upgrade showed 2 queens but the print said twins or queens. The room had one king in it. When we told reception this was not correct they said the room could be one king or could be a double by splitting the king into two beds, which they then did. I guess we got the twins. The room was set up as a single - one bathrobe; one pair of slippers; one bed; one bottle of water. And when they split the king into 2 beds the room became significantly less spacious and maneuvering by two of us became an issue. Two light bulbs were burned out in the room, one in the bathroom where it was clearly needed. The back of the desk chair was separating from the frame. The bulbs and the chair were replaced immediately after we told them. The TV remote was not functioning when we arrived. That was fixed the next day. Three out of 5 days we had to ask for the second water bottle. The maid clearly thought of the room as a single. The bathroom was very nice but very small. The beds themselves were not all that comfortable. Again, adequate but not great. Staff was very friendly. Overall, the hotel was nice, but for the money we paid I think we could have gotten a much better accomodation somewhere else.

Much better than some reviews suggest

Located right above the Lancaster Gate tube station this hotel is easy to reach though not right in the heart of the tourist area. The rooms was up to date with down comforters, plasma tv, and a nice bathroom. The concierge was helpful and other staff friendly. The only ding for our stay was that the room was not ready until nearly 3pm though they say check-in begins at 2pm. Very nice value in a quiet area across from Hyde Park.

Outstanding hotel, but pricey.

Royal Lancaster is a lovely, well situated hotel, but because it is in London, the prices are unreal. 17 pounds a person for a continental breakfast, one pound to print up a boarding pass, 10 pounds to watch an in-room movie. But I suppose that's London. However, be prepared. If price is not a concern, it's absolutely wonderful.
