This hotel was a GREAT place to stay! In an excellent location. There is also a restaurant downstairs open 24hrs.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 5 of 244Great price but no parking
The hotel was nice, the service was great, but be prepared to pay an additional $20 a day for parking. Other than that it was fine. Roof top patio was pretty cool

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 6 of 244Great room for price
Very convenient and funky, which we really liked. Those who like modern should probably stay some where else, but I would definitely stay again. Hotel staff was great!

Trip Type: Romance Review 7 of 244Great location and quaint ambience
Overall very good, attentive staff. Contrary to other reviews, noise level was not an issue, may have been a function of room location. The only downside was the bed, very uncomfortble.

Trip Type: Romance Review 9 of 244Good stay!
Overall, the stay was pleasant. The room was pretty small but it was perfect for us because we were only there for a couple days and didn't plan on spending a whole lot of time in the room. The toilet in our bathroom, however, smelled like a wet dog or something. But other than that, the room was nice. It was perfect if you want to walk around the Gaslamp Quarter and get some dinner and drinks. I'd recommend the room to others.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 11 of 244great room for the money
small room but the hotel has history.elevators almost 100 years old are slow and the door and gate may be a little difficult to maneuver with bags, but its a little taste of 1912.thats cool...rooftop patio gives you a view of most of the city.restaurant is ok.portions probably too big.location is great.good restaurants all around.i will definitely stay here next time in San Diego,

Trip Type: Romance Review 12 of 244Interesting Antiquity
The room was small but comfortable and the beds were very soft. Smallest bathrooms I have ever seen. The hotel staff was devoid of any personality and not very welcoming. Brian's Eatery downstairs is unbelievably awesome! The location of the St. James is perfect for walking around the Gas Lamp and access to the trolley. Would stay again if the price was a little better. Oh an parking is not free.

Trip Type: Romance Review 13 of 244Fantastic hotel in a great location!
My husband and I stayed in the hotel for just one night and had a great time. I think the hotel is wonderful for a young couple such as us. The proximity to the bars and restaurants is perfect - 5th street is right behind you! The hotel room was comfortable and small but not sufficating. I thought the old-fashioned elevator was all part of the charm! A nice tip: from the 10th floor, walk up to the roof and the views over San Diego are wonderful! Great place to take a bottle of wine and relax!

Young men and women screaming at the top of their lungs as they return from clubbing and drinking at 3AM. Noise from the surrounding clubs and constant sirens all night long. An elevator built in 1913 that was once quant but is now a nuisance. Although this hotel is quite conveniently located within Downtown it is NOT the place to go for a quiet stay.

Trip Type: Romance Review 15 of 244Novemeber 2008 stay
My boyfriend and I stayed here in November and it was one of the best hotels for the price and area.... plus it's walking distance from all the fun night life and resturants in gaslamp district. The only thing that i would have done differently is bring my own pillows because the ones provided are small! The roof top view is amazing and the attached resturant is very good, so much that we ate there twice in our stay. thanks!
