Not so great

This was our third year at the hotel. Although the rooms were clean, the room was very hot!!! We mentioned it to the front desk and they turned off the fan which made it worse. We had to manhandle the sliding glass window to open it. So, in Dec we had to sleep with a window open just to be moderately comfortable. We also had no hot water. No matter how long we ran the tap, the best we got was luke warm water. Very disappointing. This hotel is at a great location, Unfortunately we will have to pick a new hotel for next year's annual trip to Washington DC

Excellent Location

This hotel is in a perfect location if you are touring the Smithsonian, going to the Verizon Center, the Capital building, the Washington Monument, or the National Zoo. With exception of the zoo, everything is within walking distance. The best part is the subway located underneath the hotel. The zoo is only six stops away. The pool was ok - it has a somewhat gross bubble over the top for winter swimming, but the kids enjoyed it nontheless. Beware of the pub - the prices for beer and food are ridiculous. We had a couple of beers, a couple of cheeseburgers, and a kids pizza and the bill was over $60. The waiter snickered when asked if there were happy hour specials. (Hence his 10% tip.) There are no restaurants in the area unless you walk a few blocks away from the Mall area. (Towards the Verizon Center) The reasonably priced choices are endless once you get there.

The staff is wonderful. The food is great. The location is great. But.. all floors above the lobby have peeling wallpaper, stained plaster, carpet pulling up, old loose and scarred furniture, etc. The hotel pool is only open until 8pm and it is hard to get to on the roof. No hot tub. There are a lot of things the hotel advertised that are not there, such as the mini bar in the rooms and robes. The in room safe is convenient. I booked a king room and got a double. It did have a great view from the balcony. They let you bring pets for a fee but the pet area is on the roof with the pool and that area closes at 8pm. TV had broken remote sensor and was old and small. Furniture was old and wobbly. No in room coffee maker. No breakfast included either. Did have an in room refrigerator. If you are driving to the hotel expect to pay $33 a day for parking and if you want internet you have to pay $11 a day for that.

Go for the location only!!!

The hotel room were very dated and not very nice. Parking here was a nightmare!! To find the hotel park we had to pull in 2 other parking garages. Also, the bartenders was very rude and unfriendly.

Great Location

Though somewhat hidden behind the DOE building, this hotel is particularly well located relative to government agencies, Smithsonian, and the mall. It also has convenient parking and access on the lower level to the metro. In a pinch, I have even taken my dog along; it is pet friendly, with a doggie terrace area. I miss only the coffee maker in the room, but fortunately, Starbucks is in the lobby.

This place is ok

Visting DC for vacation? I'd suggest finding a hotel north of the mall around 7th street. Especially on a weekend because NOTHING is open around this hotel on weekends or any night time. At least the location is good compared to most other hotels. The hotel is so so but if for any crazy reason your credit card number changes and you want to add a night, enjoy their high fees!

Perfect Location for Smithsonian Museums

This reasonably priced hotel is an easy five minute walk from the Smithsonian Castle and the Mall. The rooms are simple but clean, and service helpful and pleasant. We would recommend the hotel for families traveling on a budget.

Excellent Hotel

I loved this hotel, it was less than 1/2 mile away to everything you want to see such as the Washington Monument, Smithsonian, Lincoln Memorial, White House. They have the subway right under the hoel which made it convenient to go to Maryland and Arlington, VA. You should definaely stay here, and the hotel restaurant food was excellent as well.

Overall, excellent hotel

It is an exquisite hotel. The only real drawback is the neighborhood. Although the L'Enfant Plaza has lots of shops and restaurants, they're underground. My two-block walks to and from the place of our meetings was through a busy traffic pattern, a major entry onto the interstate, and under an overpass that was dark.

Service is lacking

The location, amenities and cleanliness were all great. However, the curb staff was less than helpful in directing me to self-park my vehicle. Also, once seated in the hotel’s main restaurant, I was forgotten and left for 20 minutes without having my order taken. Once I was finally served however, I must say that the chef prepared the most delicious salmon I’ve ever had.

Great Hotel

This hotel is in a perfect location for easy access to the Metro and museums. Our room had a great view and the staff were wonderful. We didn't notice any signs of construction crews or interuptions.
