ask about the parking

My family just returned from a ation i houstio at hotel Derek. Upon check out I was informed of almost $100. in valet parking fee. I never asked for valet parking. The hotel staff stated there was no other parking available. We tipped the parking staff Very Good. I would not have given almost $75 in tip If I owuld have know. I feel you should tell your guest about the parking fees tht will be aded to your bill. When I spoke with the manager about this, he was not helpful and refused to lower any of the charges. He acted as though he was the owner of the hotel. I will never stay at hotel Derek ever again. The htoel staff are great. The management could use classes in customer service.

Great view of downtown

The hotel was very nice, retro style. Our room was great with a great view of downtown Houston (except at night because downtown has no lights???) The hotel restaurant was being renovated for a great new chef due to open in September (sorry we missed it). The hotel shuttle took us a local restaurant and promptly picked us up.

really nice and chic !

except curtain, everything was perfect. my room was east side,but doesn't have any curtain to protect sunshine. Just see-through curtain does not working at all!

The hotel is located in the middle of town and at night you can hear all the Saturday night traffic and the camera that flashed every time someone passed a red light.

4 Star?????

This hotel should be rated at 4 1/2, if not 5 Stars. The rooms and service was outstanding, not to forget the good deal I received.... Keep It Up, Hotel Derek Staff and Management :-)

Nice but kind of stuffy

It is a nice hotel and the rooms are good. Service could have been better. It seemed like the workers were bothered by helping people instead of enjoying providing good service. Parking is valet only and comes at a cost.

I had a problem with receiving my free valet parking and breakfast that was offered through hotels.com. The hotel wouldnt do anything to help although I pulled up the webiste and showed them it was clearly there. I had to call hotels.com 4 times to get things straightened out. It's a nice hotel, I've stayed there multiple times and the attention to detail and location is nice. Price for room, not the best.

Good and Clean

The hotel Derek was a comfortable stay. I would stay there again without any hesitation. I was not please that the price of room service was so high for the amount of money paid.

Nice Hotel, Updated Modern

Hotel was nice,clean and an updated modern style. The beds were very comfortable and had soft cushy bedding. The bathroom had been updated, but the tub and shower surround were not part of the remodel. The pool was the only real disappointment. There was no hot tub, and was really cold for being mid June and 95 degrees that day. The area around the pool had a few lounge chairs, but otherwise a very sparce shaded area with no landscaping and really just looked like an afterthought. This is not the place to go if you have visions of lounging by the pool! Otherwise the hotel was really nice for the price.

Accomodations are great, service needs improvement

We booked several rooms for the weekend at the Hotel Derek. The rooms were nice and clean! We did have a complaint which was handled very poorly. When we were trying to get the issue resolved, the manager said the only remedy was for us to stay somewhere else, so we ended up checking out early. One of the other managers did try to help, but we had already checked out and were on our way to the next property. Very unfortunate series of events. Other than that, it was a nice place.
