Trip Type: Family Review 2 of 270Just an old, but remodeled, no-frills motel
The name 'hotel' is really misleading. This is really one of those old, but remodeled, simple motels with paper-thin walls. Although the room was clean enough, the beds were below par and the room had a funny musty smell that deodorants could not hide. Also, we could hear everything that was happening outside and in the room next door. This was not in the tourist area of San Diego, but the area had a lot of restaurants and a Walmart close by. It took us a little over 15 minutes to drive to Sea World by way of Balboa Ave.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 4 of 270Quite okay for what you pay for
We had booked two rooms for three days and it was quite a pleasant stay, we were given rooms side by side, and the rooms had microwave and stove. Nice breakfast every morning. all in all it was more than what we had paid for.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 5 of 270Delightful gardens
Being strangers to the area, our sole reason for a three day stay was the proximity to the locations of a memorial service and family gatherings. We arrived at noon and had to wait until 3:45 for housekeeping to get a room ready for us. The breakfast staff worked hard, but may need a little help. For one thing, with such a large crowd, why so few and such tiny garbage cans? The rooms are plain but clean. But it is the outdoors, the gardens that provide the welcoming atmosphere. Given the choice of indoor decor or gorgeous outdoor landscaping, we'll take the outdoors. Family members, who had lived in the neighborhood for years and driven by the hotel daily, had no idea the grounds behind the gates were so beautiful. We would definitely stay there again.

Trip Type: With Friends Review 7 of 270Better than expected
Very happy with accomodations for the price. Suprised at all the extra amenities in the room...refridgerator, microwave, cable, blow dryer, cutting board, etc. Breakfast was clean, good choices and a benifit for the stay. Shower presure needs to be worked on, too strong for our tastes. Will stay agian and we recomend to others.

Trip Type: Overnight Stay Review 8 of 270Great Room for the Money
I was a little apprehensive when I first booked this hotel room because it was so cheap. However, upon arriving to the hotel I was pleasantly surprised by the accomodations. The room was spotless, the courtyards are beautiful and the whole building has a great personality that you don't find for the kind of money I paid. I would definitely stay here again and although it is not luxurious it is very cozy and comfortable. Check it out if you are in the neighborhood!

Trip Type: Special Event Review 9 of 270Bringing mediocre to new heights
The room itself was not all that bad; the layout was nice, very clean and large bathroom, very nice little continental buffet with a newspaper, the pool looked very clean (although it was too cold to swim in) and staff was kind and helpful. I wasn't particularly excited with the loud closing doors at the end of the hallway that sounded like a bomb went off, and although they posted a no smoking policy everywhere, they left the doors open to do maintenance cleaning, and everyone and their cat smoked on the patio which blew delicious cigarette smoke down the hallways and into the rooms. The Queen bed was more like a twin, and a little uncomfortable for bigger people like me. There are "no" signs everywhere you look (ex: no smoking, no pets allowed, no children allowed after 9 near the pool, no taking the food from the buffet, no checks, no soliciting, no this and no that.

Trip Type: Not Provided Review 11 of 270Great no-frills accommodations
Friendly service, beautifully maintained grounds, clean rooms, comfy beds and a tasty, free Continental breakfast each morning made for a most pleasant stay at the California Suites Hotel. I'd recommend it to anyone pinching pennies in this tight economy!

Trip Type: Family Review 12 of 270Great room for the money
We stayed in November over Thanksgiving weekend, got reduced wnter rates which was great. The room was more spacious than expected, and had a walk-in closet which was very handy. Good quality bagels and cereals for Breakfast, too. It's only a few miles from downtown San Diego, and a few miles from the Zoo, and there's decent food and shopping options in the area.

Trip Type: Family Review 13 of 270Needs a lot of improvemnet
The breakfast was poor in quantity and quality. They allow long stay of residents. There are no food to purchase on location (only soda vending machines).

Trip Type: Romance Review 15 of 270Better than hotels twice the price
All the amenities that my parents were paying for at a "ritzy" hotel I got for half the price, and with actual customer service, in a more convenient location. Feels more like an apartment than a hotel, which if you like to be left alone, is great. Best thai restaurant I've ever eaten from within walking distance. Close to a Wal-Mart and kids fun center too, so convenience is right there.
